ARHONTIKI CHURCH

During the 18th century, below Lamia Castle the Holy Church of Our Lady of the Mansion “Arhontiki”. It is the second monument in line of archaeological importance after the Castle. It owes its name to the predecessors and rulers of Lamia, who exclusively went there in the past. It has been built on an older church previously destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt in 1760 and was painted in 1762.

The walls of the church are plain. The Narthex vestibule was later added and for that reason it has no wall paintings, as does the main church. Internally, the church is a copy of a four-aisled of bands-zones. The former has martyrs of Saints from the Old and New Testament. The second is from the Sacred Washbasin up until the Resurrection. The third includes thirty Saints and Wednesday full-bodied Saints of men and women.
