THE STATUE OF ATHANASIOS DIAKOS

The statue of Athanasios Diakos dominates Diakos Square, hero of the 1821 Revolution.

On the 23rd of April 1821 after a lot of bloodshed, Athanasios Diakos, who fell into the hands of the Turks after the battle of Alaman, was executed with an appalling and violent death. The Athanasios Diakos Statue is of great historical importance and was erected in Diakos Square in 1903 and is the work of the artist Yannis Karakatsanis.
