Platystomos baths are 35 kms away from Lamia and 5kms from the town of Makrakomi at the foot of Othrys Mountain and at an altitude of 420m. It is believed that the springs were known to the ancient Anions, but they were definitely used by the Romans. When work began in 1929 for the construction of the spa resort, ruins of ancient baths were found, bathing vessels and coins. In later years, these waters were frequently used by the inhabitants of Fthiotida due to its healing properties.
The developmental work of both the thermal and mineral springs started mainly in 1929. The area was landscaped and trees were planted and the modern Hydrotherapy unit and Mineral water therapy centre were built. Since 2004, the company “PLATYSTOMO Ltd.” created a modern centre of health and wellbeing of very high standards.
